Small Is Beautiful !

The figure below presents a cytogram of 50 nm (0.05 µm !) fluorospheres.
This analysis has been performed on the PRECYM’s Influx mariner. The resolution of the beads has been performed on side scatter and fluorescence because there was no signal recorded on the forward scatter detector. With so small particles, and a blue excitation (488 nm) the wavelength of the photons is much larger than the particle diameter : then the light scatter follows the Rayleigh Theory, not the Mie anymore (photons are scattered in side directions more than in the forward direction).
